This week went by so fast! We didn’t get a chance to teach a lot of lessons because all of our appointments cancelled on us because it’s flu season. Sister Glew caught it the day before Christmas Eve and I caught it Christmas Eve. I had a fever and a cough and a runny nose and my entire body ached for 3 days. But somehow I was well enough to go out during the day, but when it got to about 6PM, the symptoms came in like a wrecking ball (NO MILEY CYRUS REFERENCES IT IS JUST AN EXPRESSION. I AM A MISSIONARY). It hit me really bad when I was at the Harvey’s house for Christmas dinner – Sister Harvey is the Relief Society President of our ward, Colorado Springs 18th Ward, and President Harvey serves in the Stake Presidency. They gave me cold medicine and peppermint oil, to help me breathe better. Anyway for Christmas, we had members sign up to feed us for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. It was quite the busy day. We were with the elders in our ward the entire day too. I love our elders! They’re our Zone Leaders and on Tuesday they held a cute little “He is the Gift” fireside. It was the funniest thing…Elder Neff dressed up as Santa Claus (or Colonel Claus, as he likes to call it) and Elder Parker as Mrs. Claus. They were so into their characters. Then we opened all of our secret Santa gifts in front of our zone. All of the Elders sat in Colonel Claus’ lap, and the Sisters sat in a chair next to Colonel Claus haha. It was such a great night.
The area that I’m over is mostly in the Ghettos of CO Springs, with an exception of one pretty well off neighborhood – but that rich neighborhood is only there because that’s where most of our priesthood is haha. I’m like a 10 minute drive from the mission office, so that’s nice.
We are running really low on miles for the month, so we walked to all of our appointments one day. It was soooo cold, but still super fun. We found a scooter laying on the sidewalk and had some fun with that, and Sister Griffiths wrapped her scarf around her head and walked around looking like a Muslim with a missionary tag haha. We visited this sweet little 12 year old named Z.Z., and she is super interested in the church, but her mom doesn’t want her taking our discussions anymore. This Friday will be our last lesson with her. It’s weird because her mom is so nice to us, but she wants Z.Z to start studying another religion. We even asked her mom to sit in on the lessons, but she responds “Religion is Z.Z’s thing, not mine.” I really hope Z.Z finds her way back to a couple of missionaries in the future. It is just a sad situation!
We have this Golden investigator, Whitney, who is AMAZING. She accepts everything we say and basically asked to be baptized. She has the cutest little 3 year old son and her husband is currently in prison, but she’s sending him a Book of Mormon so he can read it and convert after he gets off probation, while won’t be for a few years. But we went over because she just got our of surgery and asked if she wanted a priesthood blessing. She said she did and we called Elder Neff and Elder Parker over and they gave her a blessing. SHE LOVED IT. She was so excited after it was over and said “I felt all warm and tingly and fuzzy…I can’t wait to be baptized!” Then she was showing us all of her tattoos and there is this one on her ring finger with her husband’s name on it and the words “‘Till Death” tattooed by his name. Then she points it out and laughs and says “I should tattoo a ‘JK’ there because I want to be sealed with him and have an eternal marriage.” OH MY GOODNESS SHE IS GOING TO BE GREAT. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.
I hope y’all had a good Christmas! And I wish y’all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
