Look what we got from the Taipei Mission President today!
STATUS OF OUR VISA WAITERS
I have received notice in the past couple of days that the paperwork for 15 of our visa-waiting missionaries has been finalized and forwarded to the consulate. We hope the paperwork on the other 13 missionaries will be put together and submitted quickly as well. Keep prayer for quick results.
There were 16 Taipei missionaries that came out with me, so I am assuming that 3 of them that were in my group are ahead of all the others…however, one of them, Elder Dorius, had to go home for surgery (he was in CO Springs with me), so I don’t know if he is counted as one of the 13 missionaries.
We had transfer meeting on Tuesday! None of the visa waiter were getting transferred, but we all went anyway because the mission office got Ministerial Certificates from Salt Lake they needed all the visa waiter to sign. It was so good seeing my MTC family again! We saw each other and we flipped out and it was so hard not to hug the elders haha. I was so tempted to because we have really grown so close in the 12 weeks we were in the MTC together. HANDSHAKES ALL AROUND. We were all speaking Mandarin and no one could understand us, it was great!
The day after, we had 5 out of 5 recent converts show up for interviews with the bishop for their temple recommend! It was so great! They all got a temporary one…even Whitney! She was so excited, we took a picture of her holding it up. And since it happened to be a Wednesday, all of the Young Men and Women were there for mutual, and she ended up having really good conversations with a lot of the members! Whitney is just amazing, and is really integrating herself into the ward.
We have just one progressing investigator now, Melissa. She has been investigating the church for a really long time and has been taught all of the lessons, but she’s having a really difficult time quitting smoking and coming to church. We visited her this week and she said that she really wants to quit, but she smokes a cigarette every morning out of habit. She doesn’t realize what she’s doing until it’s too late. But we’re helping her by texting her every morning to remind her not to smoke, and she has been smoke free for 5 days now! Her living situation is difficult too. She takes care of her friend, Deb, who is suffering from severe depression from years and years of drug abuse. She can’t do anything for herself, her legs don’t work, and she’s becoming blind. While we were with Melissa, Deb started to cry and yell for help. It was so sad. While Melissa was getting hold of Deb’s doctor, she had us go into Deb’s room to try and calm her down. At first, she was wailing and crying for help, and nothing was working, but then Sister Griffiths asked her what her favorite color was. She answered “red”. We then started talking about football, because she loves football (it was easy for me to start that conversation up:)). We just distracted her from her pain by talking about stuff she liked until the doctor showed up. The spirit really guided us there. Even though we weren’t talking about anything regarding the gospel, the spirit was present.
Then Saturday, we went to the temple! But Whitney called us 30 minutes before we were going to leave and cancelled because her son, Paxton, was running a 103 degree fever, and she couldn’t find anyone to take care of him. She was so upset she couldn’t come with us. But we had an amazing time in the temple! Our recent converts did baptisms and we did confirmations. It was such a blessing for me to be able to go to the Denver temple…especially since it’s not in the Colorado Springs mission, AND I’m a visa waiter haha. But the temple was BEAUTIFUL…the sun sets behind it and it was literally one of the prettiest sights I have ever seen.
We went to Deseret Book after the temple (I WANTED TO BUY EVERYTHING). We got Whitney a mini hymn book with her name engraved on it, and also a temple recommend holder. We gave that to her at church the next day and she was sooooo excited and happy to receive them! I wish y’all could have seen the look on her face when we gave her the hymn book!
Well, that’s all for this week I believe! I love y’all, and always remember to keep the Lord first!
